Brian Moran is a versatile Bay Area guitarist equally at home in jazz and Latin styles. A Berklee College of Music graduate (’98), he maintains an active career as a performer and educator.
Originally a rock guitarist, Brian shifted his focus to jazz, leading the Blowout Sextet and releasing the acclaimed album The Supporting Theory. Since 2001, he has expanded his repertoire to include 7-string jazz guitar, Brazilian, Spanish, and flamenco styles. A founding member of Grupo Falso Baiano, he was nominated as Latin Jazz Guitarist of the Year(2011) by Latin Jazz Corner.
Brian has studied extensively in Brazil and Spain, working with renowned musicians including Alessandro Penezzi and Mauricio Carrilho. He has taught at California Brazil Camp, JazzCamp West, Oakland Feather River Camp, and The JazzSchool, and contributed to Acoustic Guitar Magazine.
He is lead instructor for StrumSchool, an online platform for beginning guitarists, and his performances include collaborations with Romero Lubambo, Howard Alden, Bruce Forman, and Jovino Santos Neto.
